Enrolment at both elementary and secondary schools increased by 5.6% over the prior year, reflecting the significant population growth across the Region of Waterloo. This upward trend is expected to continue well into the 2030’s, driving the need for new schools, major additions, and additional portable classrooms to accommodate the growing student body. The steady rise in enrolment underscores the critical importance of proactive planning to meet the evolving educational needs of our expanding community.

To address the ongoing and anticipated growth in enrolment, two large elementary schools are currently under construction: a new St. Patrick School in East Kitchener and a school in the Rosenberg subdivision of South West Kitchener. Both are scheduled to open in September 2025.

Looking ahead, two additional schools are planned for September 2026—a Grade 7 to 12 school in East Kitchener and an elementary school in South East Cambridge.

We have secured funding for another elementary school in Baden; however, construction has been delayed as the site is not yet available. The goal is to have this school open by September 2026.

Despite these projects, the need for additional space remains critical, with current sites already oversubscribed and reliant on portable classrooms. Requests for further capital funding have been submitted to the province to ensure that future requirements can be met.
