Striving for our vision of St. Louis, Hope, Opportunity and Success for All
In the 2023-24 calendar year, St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education Centres registered over 16,000 students across 22 programs and services. As a complex learning community that strives to meet the needs of learners as young as six months old throughout their life-long learning journey to any age, St. Louis provide hope and opportunity to reach individual learner goals. This inclusive approach is built on accessible pathways and numerous opportunities at St. Louis campuses, and value-added learning programs within WCSDB schools after the regular instructional day and in the summer. At St. Louis we intentionally welcome and assist adults as they enter, re-enter, and transition between our programs in pursuit of their academic, personal, and career aspirations.
Some key highlights of the year:
- 381 St. Louis students earned their OSSD
- 3,659 adult learners accessed support with language acquisition through LINC and ESL programs between September and July.
- 165 adult learners received personalized programming to move forward with their goals through LBS (Literacy and Basic Skills) with an additional 136 PSW students accessing a Study Skills program to create a foundation for success before starting the PSW training courses.
- 188 students earned St. Louis certificates in PSW, Culinary or Hair training programs with many gaining employment in their fields.
- 2,771 local high school and St. Louis students registered for summer credit courses and another 1,838 learners registered for St. Louis run non-credit summer learning.
Throughout 2023-24 we continued to gather learner and parent feedback across St. Louis programs. Student surveys were conducted, monitored, and analyzed during and/or at the end of each adult and elementary aged program. Further analysis included several other staff and student voice and student achievement data sources and community trends. All will be used to respond to student needs and explore ways to optimize learning and achievement of goals in programs moving forward.
Highlights from the survey:
- 97% of adult students felt welcomed.
- 99% would recommend St. Louis to others.
- 97% of adults and 93% of school aged learners reported being on track to meet their goals.
The St. Louis guiding principle is encapsulated in our motto: ‘Hope, Opportunity, and Success for All.’ The way each learner engages with these opportunities is as diverse and unique as the thousands of learners we serve annually to reach their goals. The inspiring student success stories are fuel for the critical work of the dedicated St. Louis staff throughout the year.
