Cultivating Wellness: Advancing Mental Health Across WCDSB

In Fall 2024, WCDSB strengthened its commitment to mental health and wellbeing by advancing key pillars: Trauma-Informed Practices, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and Staff Wellbeing.

Key Highlights:

  • Trauma-Informed Practices: Expanded to ten pilot schools with regulation toolkits and resources provided to all schools. A June onboarding event for 2024-2025 implementation saw participation from nearly every WCDSB school.
  • Social Emotional Learning: Continued promotion of School Mental Health Ontario’s Faith and Wellness practices. Campaigns such as Anti-Bullying Week and Mental Health Week fostered awareness, with 1,547 Grade 7 students receiving mental health presentations and over 50 secondary students leading Safe Schools Ambassador initiatives.
  • Staff Wellbeing: Integrated resources and training to support staff in collaboration with HR, recognizing their vital role in fostering student wellbeing.

WCDSB remains dedicated to expanding Trauma-Informed practices and SEL initiatives to create a supportive and thriving environment for all.
