Our school communities are vibrant places where the gift of Catholic Education is strengthened by the essential partnership of school, family, and parish. At WCDSB we continue to celebrate the focus of the Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC) on communications with the broader parent community. In alignment with our MYSP, and in conjunction with input from our Catholic School Councils (CSCs), we continue to make great gains in the promotion of Parent Reaching out Grants, with an increase in school applications from across the board. Forty-four of 50 WCDSB schools received PRO Grants in 2016-17.
Through funds received from the PRO grant, our Waterloo Catholic Parent Involvement Committee promoted “The Importance of Parent Involvement” by hosting various workshops around topics such as mental health, healthy communities and elementary math. The event was very well attended and parent feedback was extremely positive and highlighted that the opportunity to learn together assisted them to engage more fully in their child’s education, well-being, and faith development.
At WCDSB we view our Catholic School Council representatives as leaders and we were excited to host our first annual Commissioning Ceremony for School Council Chairs and Newly Appointed Administrators. Hosted by the Board of Trustees, Director of Education, and WCDSB Pastoral Team – and sponsored by the Waterloo Region Catholic Schools Foundation — we gathered together for a liturgy and formal commissioning ceremony, where 57 school council leaders were welcomed into their roles. These dedicated volunteers were acknowledged for their very important role and received a blessing that will help them on their journey that continues to strengthen WCDSB as a community of faith in action.
