The Most Rev. Bishop Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., presided at a Commissioning Mass to launch our transition from the first to the second year of our thematically linked pastoral plan — People of Love to People of Hope. At the celebration, there was representation from every school in the district including staff, students, parents and clergy. All elementary and secondary schools built a model ark as a symbol of inclusivity and HOPE. Members of the school community were invited to have their names on the school ark.
Our district Pastoral Team produced a support plan entitled Our Journey to be People of Hope that was distributed to all schools. Additionally, we delivered a faith leadership series entitled, “Catholic Leadership: Creating Places of Hope in our Communities” (talks were delivered by Dr. Josephine Lombardi, among others) and five retreat days for approximately 100 staff were held at Loyola House in April/May 2017. On December 9, 2016 all staff in Waterloo Catholic participated in board-wide Spiritual Development Day — following which 80% of respondents to a board survey answered positively that school communities were engaged in living our three-year pastoral plan.
