A hallmark of Waterloo Region’s Catholic Schools is their commitment to social justice activities promoted by students and staff. There are many hours each year dedicated to working locally, provincially, nationally and internationally on many aspects of support for those in need.
From Mission Days to large annual events such as the Terry Fox Run, United Way, Jump Rope for Heart, Toonies for Tuition and various WE.org opportunities, the financial contributions of our students and staff are always substantial and impactful. In 2016-17, our schools raised $355,511 – moving the board’s accumulated total since 1998 past the $5 million mark.
However, it is understood that raising money is only one aspect of assisting. The hundreds of kilos of food and clothing collected for organizations ranging from the local food bank to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Working Centre, House of Friendship and many other various organizations and causes do not have a dollar value attached to them, yet the impact on those in need is invaluable.
