Innovating for the Future: Advancing Learning at WCDSB

The Innovation portfolio at WCDSB is rooted in the Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP), with a focus on Deep Learning and Transferable Skills closely aligned with the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations (OCSGEs). These guiding principles shape every project, ensuring a cohesive approach to innovation in education for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

From the implementation of GenAI guidelines to the expansion of robotics and esports programs, the portfolio fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy among students and educators. Projects such as enhancing digital citizenship, advancing Thinking Classroom strategies, and forging partnerships with institutions like Wilfrid Laurier University and the Perimeter Institute aim to bolster STEM education and equip students with the skills needed for the future.

Equity and access are at the heart of these initiatives, ensuring all students and educators benefit from innovative tools and practices. Progress is monitored through MYSP Indicator #10, which measures how students experience the OCSGEs, connecting the portfolio’s objectives to the board’s strategic goals.

By embedding Deep Learning and Transferable Skills into all initiatives, the Innovation portfolio creates meaningful and engaging learning experiences, preparing students for success while honouring the values of Catholic education.
