Kickin’ It with Hacky Sacks: Fun, Fitness, and Coordination in Our Schools

This year, students benefited from a new addition to our non-traditional physical activity initiatives with the introduction of a class set of hacky sacks for each school. These versatile tools help students improve hand-eye coordination, cardiovascular endurance, and agility. Teachers were provided with support on how to incorporate hacky sacks into their Health & Physical Education programs, including meeting Daily Physical Activity (DPA) requirements. Resources and guidance were made available through the Health & Phys. Ed. Resource Support Folder on our Google platform.

Empowering Students: Peer-to-Peer Learning on Cannabis and Vaping Risks

In October and again in May, 54 of our secondary students participated in peer-to-peer learning sessions focused on the dangers of cannabis and vaping, supporting the Health & Physical Education curriculum. Each session involved a full day of training for our student leaders, where they explored new resources to share with their peers. In May, these leaders returned to share their experiences and insights. We collaborated closely with the Region of Waterloo Public Health on this initiative and look forward to continuing our efforts next year.
